The Prettiest Star is a song by David Bowie, originally released as a single in March 1970. In January 1970, Bowie re-recorded an old Deram track, London Bye Ta-Ta, intended as a follow-up single to Space Oddity. However, the same sessions spawned a new composition named The Prettiest Star, which Bowie had written for Angela Barnett, reputedly playing it down the telephone as part of his proposal to her. The song is in the style of the Greek hasapiko dance as a tribute to Angie's Cypriot. Текст песни: Cold fire, youve got everything but cold fire You will be my rest and peace child I moved up to take a place, near you So tired, its the sky that makes you feel Prettiest Star is a song written and performed by David Bowie. It is from the album Aladdin Sane in 1973. Lyrics: Cold fire, you've got everything but. Bowie had recently re-recorded an old Deram track, London Bye Ta Ta, intended as a follow-up single to Space Oddity. However, the same January 1970 sessions had also spawned a new composition named The Prettiest Star. Bowie wrote it for Angela Barnett, reputedly playing it down the telephone as part of his proposal to her. He also chose it as his next single, to the displeasure of manager Kenneth Pitt. Producer Tony Visconti bought David Bowie together with Mark Bolan of the Glam Rock band T. Rex' who plays guitar on the original track. In the Aladdin Sane version, from 1973, the guitarist is Mick Ronson Spider from Mars. However, Mick Ronson recreated Bolans original guitar part almost note-for-note. Yes but IMHO it's not as good a version as when Bowie redid it on 'Aladdin Sane'. Rumour has it that such was the rivalry at that time between Bolan and Bowie that the former deliberately under-cooked the guitar solo so as to sabotage the record.

It's true: Marc Bolan is the lead guitarist on this early version of "The Prettiest Star". Nicholas Pegg confirms this in "The Complete David Bowie" (2004).
