Album also known as Compact Disc or Cassette depending on the format is the fifth album by the English rock band Public Image Ltd, released on 27 January 1986. In a departure from their previous releases, John Lydon was advised by trusted music producer Bill Laswell to take on an all-star cast of session and trusted musicians, including Steve Vai, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Tony Williams and Ginger Baker. The resulting album gave PiL one of its highest charting songs, Rise. Metal Box is the second studio album from the English band Public Image Limited. Its title comes from the packaging of the original record, which was placed withing a metal box. The record is considered a post-punk classic, ranked among Rolling Stones 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. Metal Box Q&A. Producers Public Image Ltd. Writers Public Image Ltd. Public Image Limited - Album by Public Image Ltd 2012-01-24. Audio CD. The Metal BoxCan collection is still my favorite PIL release, and one that stands at the top of my list for creative package designs. even though, if you're not careful it's going to rust overnight, or perhaps it was designed that way, which is a stunning concept when you think about it, it's forever changing, forever in flux. PiL's second album, Metal Box, is a near-perfect record that reinvents and renews rock in a manner that fulfilled post-punks promises to a degree rivaled only by Joy Division on Closer. Out of all the fascinating alternate takes, B-sides, rare compilation-only tracks and never-before-released sketches that comprise this expanded reissue of Public Image Ltds post-punk landmark, its a live version of Public Image that is the real revelation. Album 1979 12 Songs. More By Public Image Ltd. See Box might just be the most unwieldy album of all time, 3 records, one embossed 16mm film canister. Packaging an album, or vinyl, at least, in metal certainly wasnt any sort of music industry standard, though it would happen again with Big Blacks Bulldozer EP, packaged in sheet metal as an homage to PiL but perhaps that was appropriate seeing as what came inside was almost radical as the packaging. But even with Wobbles distinct bass melodies and Levenes signature guitar sound, Public Image Limited would not be Public Image Limited without John Lydons mercilessly sardonic vocals
