X-MEN X-MEN
"The Original Lee Pery mix". Pricewise: 100 pounds&up ( if you can find one of 599 copies, that is ).Otherwise , go for 2lp set on Blood & Fire on 180 grams,. Why ? Answer: It's simply the best !!!
Painshade Painshade
HA HA Prices are ridiculous already....i can't believe anybody is willing to pay them.
Ƀ⁞₳⁞Ð Ƀ⁞Ǿ⁞Ɏ Ƀ⁞₳⁞Ð Ƀ⁞Ǿ⁞Ɏ
Doesn't give any reasoning to this egregious price gouging though
lolike lolike
I do, it is an amazing album and the original is a lot more expensive.
Zulurr Zulurr
Just got this today...pressed at MPO and grooves running as close to the centre label as I've ever seen!
Hellstaff Hellstaff
Another big fuck up of a record day release, £77 for a single album? Maybe I'll just buy an original!
Tygralbine Tygralbine
If you got a copy of this you are blessed. Possibly my 2017 RSD star purchase.
Kit Kit
Unfortunately the 3xlp does not have the same mix as this release

Just go my hands on a copy. To my ears on my setup it sounds REALLY good.
Wilalmaine Wilalmaine
It has a gratifying warts n all quality. You couldn't ask better. That Lee bloke was a genius.
Daigrel Daigrel
Sounds good to me too. It is not exactly the same as the 4049 original mix though. I compared this with my copy and thought there were differences. This one has a different ending on solid foundation as an example.
Dalarin Dalarin
Sounds pretty good to me - deep and warm. So happy to have this fantastic album on fresh wax.

This is an incredible album of deep roots reggae from The Congos in their late 70’s heyday.Recorded at Lee Scratch Perry’s Black Ark, the entire album is infused with his phased underwater ambience and thick ganja heavy spacey effects. Check out the opening ‘Fisherman’ with its lopsided groove and magical harmonies and ‘Congoman’, surely one of the strangest reggae tunes ever with a stripped down funk backbone overlaid with a heavy dread atmosphere and crowned with the Congos amazing three-part vocals.Elsewhere there’s the fluid rockers of ‘Can’t Come In’ and the spiky skank of ‘Ark Of The Covenant’, to the sumptuous ‘Children Crying’ and rapturous Rasta bliss of ‘Open Up The Gate’…..this is some righteous roots reggae!
blodrayne blodrayne
Im curious..... is this version the original mix?
Kerry Kerry
No, it isn't. Original mix is on limited RSD pressing and very first Jamaican pressing.
Washington Washington
Perfect album and this version in particular sounds amazing. Truly one of the greatest albums made from any genre. Few albums elicit such an emotional response from me. The newer reissues have a completely different mix and the mastering on this version is far superior.
Adoranin Adoranin
One of the greatest Reggae albums ever and probably Lee Perry's finest moment. Achingly beautiful harmonies accompanied by incredible Perry production and riddims. There's such melancholic beauty to the Congos' vocals, yet at the same time it fills you with joy at the sheer beauty of the songs. The production is almost space-like for Roots Reggae with incredible layers of percussion and dub like spaces for the music to grow. To go with the sweet melodies and stunning vocals which leaves a breathtaking album. Essential Reggae for your collection.

I bought this copy as it is affordable and not spread over multiple discs. IMO the fidelity is excellent, nice quiet and clean pressing and mine came in a poly lined sleeve so that's always a plus. I read somewhere that Lee would blow herb smoke into the microphone occasionally to impart a "hazy" sound. I actually prefer that sound and this version to the others, it is still very detailed musically to me, just a little rough around the edges soundwise. Like unearthing an audio gem, recommended for sure.
Enila Enila
Just the worst reissue i ever came across of the HOTC... sold at to me at Hardwax record Store in Berlin ... be aware!
lacki lacki
Echoing the previous comments. Terrible pressing. Dull, flat, lifeless, very quiet. Sounds like it was mastered by a deaf person via satellite telephone link. So bad is it in fact, that it made me wonder if my speakers had blown. Avoid this like the plague. If someone actually pressed the plague onto vinyl it would sound better than this.
Fearlesshunter Fearlesshunter
This is a very disappointed in this pressing...flat, lifeless, muddy. Does not come to close to the quality I was expecting. Hopefully I will come across a better one at some point.
Wat!? Wat!?
The sound lacks brightness, it has no definition in the instruments, no depth. A disappointment unfortunately this album. A bad job of VP Records. Quality control is a disaster.
Buzalas Buzalas
My version has track A2 spelled correctly on the label. I bought it in Boston circa 2003-4.
Dammy Dammy
Mine doesn't sound good... is it because of this press?
Nalmergas Nalmergas
Yes, this pressing sucks, which is why I have gave one of my favorite albums such a low rating.
Painbrand Painbrand
Mine is the same - just got it from Amazon. It skips and sounds muddy.
catterpillar catterpillar
It is a shame how muddy this record from VP sounds compared to the issue put out by Blood & Fire. I bought this a bit ago and immediately noticed the difference when I put the needle on the wax. As an album, hard to say this isn't THE best single album that ever came off that island. A masterpiece along the lines of Jimi Hendrix's Electric Ladyland in terms of a single conception.
Ochach Ochach
This is not the original Jamaica (Black Art) mix as the gentleman below states, but the common Island mix.
